No, I do not have a partnership with @notonthehigh

No, I do not have a partnership with @notonthehighstreet … yet! 😁

However I want to share that:

+ There are of course worse addictions than these and you know what I mean.
+ Buying stuff from local retailers makes me feel less *guilty* than buying from the large ones. More dopamine clearly.
+ The wallet still takes a hit but at least I feel I have also contributed positively (whatever makes me feel better … am I right?)
+ It is one of my guilty pleasures when I procrastinate, feel uncomfortable, overwhelmed with kids and want a distraction from work! 

The positive is:
+ Most of my close friends have gotten something personalised over the last year. You are welcome! 😉
+ My kids get to fight less as they know for sure that the towel is theirs. Clearly everyone is happy ;)
+ Not everyone has this addiction which means I feel quite “unique”
+ It probably won’t end in 2023

“But what if my goal changes? Does it mean I have failed?” 👈 This is what one of my client asked me in a session.

It’s normal to feel that way.

Are you the problem, or is the goal the problem?

Well neither to be honest.

When you focus on the steps and understand your why, you might realise that what you originally thought was your original goal can change. And that is actually normal. It’s good to create a goal and making sure that goal is ambitious so that you actually want more for yourself.

Say: “I want to be rich” as an example.

Over the years, you might realise that you met people that have enriched you. You have created a community that have given you the satisfaction you were missing, and you still have made money, but maybe not the money you had planned as your original goal?

So here is the thing: flexibility comes over time as long as you know how to see it.

When You can reframe your why a often as you can.

This is the value work that we do in the group coaching and 1-1 sessions.

It takes practice to:

+ Be ok with the discomfort of leaving things unfinished
+ Disconnect from work so that we can fully present with them (and vice versa!)
+ Slowing down to enjoy the moments

The good news is, practicing it is something we can control.

There are other things that help too:

+ Building a community of other mothers that will also help you when your childcare solution fell through
+ Focusing on spending time doing things you enjoy with the children rather than feeling pressured to enjoy it all
+ Acknowledge when guilt is overpowering and doing something about it.

I never start my sessions with goal setting. It would not be fair to on my client.

It’s a bit like going up a ladder and not knowing if the wall it is resting on is solid enough for the climb.

You can easily not know WHY you’re climbing in the first place.

So, here is what we do: we need to focus on the why.

Why is that goal so important?

Is it because it truly is important to YOU, or is it because you we want to do it for someone else? Or to prove something to someone?

Pausing and reflecting before embarking on any goal is key for its viability. It’s also key for motivation, pace and progress.

YOUR VALUES is a great way to do that.

You can dive deep into understanding what energy you want to put behind the goals you want to set for yourself.

What is it that you truly want? Is it to be rich/ famous, or is it to feel more part of a community? This just feels a little out of place!

WHO is your feedback is coming from? If it’s coming from someone you admire and respect, then listen to it.

There is often truth to what is being said, even if it is negative. If you see it as a test/trial learning opportunity then chances are you will grow from it.

If the feedback comes from someone who does not have your best interest at heart and you know it is not true. Check your emotions around it, accept them and then try to leave it there. Do not engage and add water in a plant that should not be growing.

The best advise I was given by @joumanna.bercetche was to get a group of people, your tribe who you can rely on for feedback. Not just your cheerleaders.

I have my cheerleaders: my mum, my very best friends. I also have a group of people I know will be honest with me when I share my life experience, my stories. I also have a fantastic support group and coach that is there to question and make sure I improve.

We keep moving and DOING, but do you feel you are

We keep moving and DOING, but do you feel you are actually achieving anything? something.

See, moving is not the same as getting the results you want.

Think about it this way: are you just keeping yourself busy, or are you actually building something everyday that will get you closer to what you want?

It’s ok to feel that you need to keep moving; I feel the same way most times. It can feel scary to stop.

But it’s only when I stop that I can ponder realise if I am doing the things I want to do and if that will bring me closer to my goals.

Slowing down is to actually helps you reassess where you are and if the steps are the right ones to take.
